Daniel L. Hartnett

Daniel L. Hartnett is a Partner in the Litigation Team at Crary Huff Law Firm practicing in the areas of personal injury, insurance defense, business litigation, employment litigation and construction litigation.

Dan was born in Sioux City and grew up on a family farm in northeast Nebraska near Hubbard. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1978 and his law degree from the same institution in 1981.

Dan is a trial lawyer, representing a diverse clientele in complex civil litigation in the state and federal courts of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. His trial work is varied, involving numerous areas of interest such as trusts and estates, employment, construction, business, personal injury and worker’s compensation.

Dan also represents a number of businesses and farm clients regarding their day-to-day activities as well as helping them from a business and estate planning perspective.

Dan is a member of the state bar associations of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. He currently serves on the Iowa State Bar Association’s Board of Governors. He is a past board member of the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys. Dan has received an AV Preeminent designation from Martindale-Hubbell peer review ratings.

Dan and his wife Eileen have three children. Dan has been a resident of the Siouxland area since joining Crary Huff in 1981. He has been active in numerous civic, charitable and religious organizations in Siouxland since that time. Dan’s personal interests include reading, travel, golf and a lifelong passion for Cornhusker football.

Labenz v. Rollman. (Nebr. Dist. Ct.) Defense of wrongful death action. Farm worker entangled in haystack mover. Jury verdict for defense.

3M Company Asbestos Litigation. Representation of 3M Company in all asbestos cases brought against 3M in the State of Iowa.

AOL v. NHCD. (U.S. Dist. Ct. N.D. of Iowa) Lead defense counsel of Iowa company in internet spamming litigation brought by AOL.

City of Sergeant Bluff v. Professional Service Industries. Reese & Rowe v. Professional Service Industries. (Iowa Dist. Ct.) Lead counsel for geotechnical engineering company regarding catastrophic failure of two construction projects.

Peterson v. Mississippi Chemical Company (U.S. Dist. Ct. N.D. of Iowa). Co-counsel in mass tort litigation involving explosion at Terra International fertilizer plant. Case has settled for $18.5 million dollars.

Pillsbury v. Wells Dairy (Iowa Dist. Ct.). Co-counsel representing Plaintiff regarding claim for property damage and loss profits in excess of $100 million resulting from fire and explosion at Wells Dairy ice cream plant.

Hamilton, et al. v. Dubois Sanitation Services (U.S. Dist. Ct. of Nebr.). Representation of four IBP supervisors regarding chlorine gas exposure at IBP’s Dakota City plant.
