McCullough Favors Snow Days - Skate skiing offers full body workout

Most people hate snow days.

But for Cody McCullough, those are his favorite days of the year.

"There's nothing more invigorating than a good snowfall," the Sioux City attorney, says with a smile. "When it snows, I can't wait to go and play in it."

McCullough says he's been a cross-country skier for as long as he can remember but it's skate skiing that gets his adrenaline pumping.

Schmitt Appointed to Council

Laura Schmitt has been appointed to serve on the Business Law Section Council of the Iowa State Bar Association for a three-year term ending June 30, 2011. The Business Law Section is currently working to update the Business Law Practice Manual and is organizing a CLE on various business topics to be held in Iowa City in November.

Ringgenberg Featured Speaker

Dennis Ringgenberg was a featured speaker at the Fourth Judicial Bench-Bar Conference in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 28, 2009. He gave a presentation on the Revised Child Support Guidelines, focusing on the provisions relating to health insurance and cash medical support.

Cody McCullough, Accomplished Racer

One Wednesday each month in June, July and August, bicyclists flew around flat, rural roads in Union County, S.D., to determine the fastest metro racer.

The results showed Cody McCullough remains the most accomplished racer, as he won the Sioux City Velo 2009 Time Trial Series.

Connealy Honored for Pro Bono Work

This year the Iowa Supreme Court is joining with Iowa Legal Aid in recognizing the work of Iowa lawyers who have contributed in outstanding ways to the success of the Iowa Legal Aid Volunteer Lawyers Project or to pro bono efforts in general. Mick Connealy will be honored for completing more than 50 hours of pro bono work through the Volunteer Lawyers Project in 2008.

Connealy Elected to YLD Council

Mick Connealy was recently elected as the District 3B Representative to the Young Lawyers Division Executive Council. A Young Lawyer is any member of the Iowa State Bar Association who is not over 35 years of age or has not been admitted to practice in any state for more than ten years. The Young Lawyers Division's mission is to attract, serve and engage new members of the bar; to provide the tools and opportunities that will allow members to better serve their clients, communities and the legal profession; to be an advocate in the discussion of policies that affect young lawyers; to create a forum for the exchange and expression of views and ideas; and to be a source of information that will assist its members in maintaining the high standards of practice displayed by its predecessors.

Proposed Adoption of the Uniform Limited Liability Company Act in South Dakota

Darrell Jesse is a member of the South Dakota State Bar – Business Law Committee. The committee is currently reviewing a number of proposed changes to South Dakota law, including a proposal for the adoption of the Uniform Limited Liability Company Act in South Dakota which was drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL). The Uniform Limited Liability Act was adopted last year by Iowa and has been adopted or is being considered in a number of other states. These proposed changes will be considered by the South Dakota State Bar this June at the annual meeting and in June 2010.
