Cody was born and raised in Storm Lake, Iowa. Cody obtained his undergraduate degree in 1993 from the University of Iowa, graduating with honors and distinction. While at the University of Iowa, Cody was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Cody attended the University of Iowa Law School where he graduated in 1996 with high distinction. Following law school, Cody joined the Crary Huff Law Firm where he has been a Partner since 1999. Cody has been a member of the Firm’s management committee since 2014.
Cody was admitted to practice in Iowa in 1996 and is also licensed in South Dakota. Cody is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Business, Real Property, Probate and Trust Law), Iowa State Bar (section of Real Estate and Title and Business) and Woodbury County Bar Associations. Cody has served as an adjunct instructor in the Business Administration Department of Morningside College and has also presented at the University of Iowa, College of Law continuing legal education series.
Cody’s practice is focused on transactional and other business work representing a wide range of clients ranging from individuals to large industrial corporations. Cody has extensive experience in commercial real estate representing developers in site acquisition, title work, covenants, platting, zoning, city development agreements, including tax increment financing, and sales. In addition to representing borrowers in private financing transactions, Cody regularly advises borrowers in HUD-insured loan transactions.
Outside of the practice of law, Cody continues his lifelong passion for racing his bike competing throughout the Midwest each year as a USA Cycling Category 1 racer. Cody also spends the winter months cross country skiing and regularly competes in the American Birkebeiner ski race.
