Marci grew up in Kingsley, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 1985. She obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver College of Law. After practicing law with a firm in Denver for several years, Marci returned to Siouxland and joined the firm in 1999. Marci was admitted to practice in Colorado in 1992, Iowa in 1999 and Nebraska in 2009.
Although Marci works on all types of litigation matters, a significant portion of her practice involves representing both large and small employers in a variety of employment related matters. Examples of the types of issues she frequently handles include, but are not limited to, sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination claims. Marci frequently represents employers in proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state anti-discrimination agencies. She also advises clients on various statutory issues including Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, and Americans With Disabilities Act matters. Marci proactively counsels clients on questions relating to hiring and firing, wage and hour issues, employee leave issues, drug testing, and harassment and discrimination investigations. She also works with clients to develop employment policies and she drafts employee handbooks. In addition, Marci negotiates and drafts employment-related contracts such as non-compete agreements and separation agreements.
Marci represents financial institutions in foreclosure actions. She has extensive experience in this area and has handled both residential and commercial foreclosures, including apartment buildings and hotels, as well as agricultural property. She also advises financial institutions with regard to other lending issues.
